Don Cook

Don Cook
Manager PGM Education
PGA Education Faculty
Port St. Lucie, Florida 34986
772-462-8514 • dcook@pgahq.com

CAREER PROFILE
Don Cook is a second career golf professional. In his first career he was a school teacher, basketball and golf coach. After 20 years of successful teaching and coaching, Don took over a failing private golf club in northwestern Ohio as its general manager and head professional in 1985. His tenure at Delphos Country Club was also successful as he grew the membership and created business plans that eventually turned the club around both financially and socially.

Don then left the private club arena to become involved in a golf instructional facility in Lima, Ohio, where he built a large clientele of students of the game of golf at Swing Rite Golf Center. In 1996 he left the teaching center and began coaching golf at the collegiate level as the assistant men’s coach. Although his time at Tri-State University was short their teams appeared twice in the NAIA National Championships.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
In 2001 Don took a position with the PGA of America as a faculty member teaching and mentoring apprentices in the PGA PGM Program. His past experiences presented him with a rare opportunity to be involved in writing and revising curricula and the presentation of materials to the 8,000 apprentices in the program. He has also provided many PGA member education programs and instructed seminars for some allied associations such as the CMAA, GCSAA, and NRPA. Although Don’s career has been quite varied, the single thread that has bound all the variables together has been education and mentoring.

Don has been married to his wonderful wife for 40 years. She has been a kindergarten teacher for the past 38 years. Together they have a son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandsons.
